SXSW 2009 is approaching fast, and around this time, potential presenters collect their thoughts and come up with panels that would make for interesting discussion during the day. In true democratic fashion, the (registered) public votes on submitted panel ideas through the Interactive Panel Picker. Each panel idea falls under one category. The focus for this post will be Digital Filmmaking.
Since I know nothing about this subject, I enlisted the help of my good friend and Pop Culture Guru Dan Houle. The main observation he made about these panel submissions, which may be said for most of them, is that they are either too basic or too technical. Still, he gave me his four:
- Machinima Kung Fu with Millions of Us‘ Michael Verdi
- How to Get Fat Money from YouTube with Green Screen Cinema’s Jim Skinner
- Location, Location, Location with Small Media Extra Large’s Meghan Scibona
- Soapbox Spielbergs: Making Hollywood FX on Indie Budgets with Next New Networks‘ Tim Shey
Thanks for the link, I really appreciate it. I’m a huge believer that online video distribution is going to put a stake in the heart of the studios (and finally shift some power over to the independent filmmaker). What I couldn’t believe was how roughly SXSW treats their panelists. I blogged about the whole experience, if you get a chance give it a read. SXSW plays hardball.
